Pirates finish up the week with another IVC win.
Garaway finished out the week with another conference victory, this over the Malvern Hornets. Pirate hurler Kassidy Reidenbach earned her 10th win of the season in a 5 inning game. Reidenbach pitched perfect softball 4 out of the 5 innings, striking out 9 Hornets. The only blemish on the night was a Malvern rally in the 4th inning. A lead-off walk along with a pair of singles and an error gave Malvern their only runs of the game.
Reidenbach received plenty of help from her offense as every Pirate in the lineup reached base safely.
Jocelyn Troyer led off the first inning with a single. A pair of quick outs brought Reidenbach to the plate. Reidenbach singled then Hannah Halstead drew a walk to load the bases. A passed ball scored Troyer and moved runners into scoring position. Sierra Slentz drilled a shot to deep left field for what looked to be a sure double, only to be robbed with a leaping catch by Malvernâs Jordan Holmes.
Garaway broke open the game in the second with 5 runs. Amber Monigold led off with a double and Ashley Shrock followed with a single. Kallie Regula reached on an error, scoring Monigold. Troyer continued the offensive output with a single to load the bases. Cassy Donaldson sent a deep fly ball to center to score Shrock, who tagged up on the catch.
With the Pirates now up 3-0, Kaitlyn Stress smashed a double to center driving home Regula. Halstead finished out the scoring with a 2 RBI single as Garaway ended their half of the inning with a 6-0 lead.
Garaway tacked 4 more runs on the board in the fourth inning to take a commanding 10-0 lead. Zoe Johnson scored on a passed ball. Sierra Slentz had an RBI double. Amber Monigold and Ashley Shrock each singled in a run.
Garaway finished off the scoring in the 5th with a pair of runs. Donaldson and Stress hit back -to-back singles. A ground out by Reidenbach brought Donaldson home. An overthrow by the Malvern defense also allowed Stress to score on the play.
Garaway ends the week with an impressive 19-2 overall record, 11-1 in conference play and ranked 6th in the state. The Pirates will return to action on Monday when they host Ridgewood.
